Kalamandalam Leelamma Memorial Cultural Trust conducts courses for Mohiniyattam highlighting its history and the solid contributions of Leelamma. The courses are approved by STED (Scientific & Technical Education Development Council), the Central Government Agency, which is empowered to grant Courses.
The Trust decided to begin Courses for Mohiniyattam and constituted a Core Faculty Team comprising of subject experts, Kalamandalam Kavitha Krishnakumar and Dr. Geetha Sivakumar. The syllabi for four Courses were prepared and submitted to STED. The members of STED visited Dr. Krishna Priya’s house situated in Cheruthuruthy, the venue identified for conduct of courses. After inspecting the infrastructure and discussion with the subject-experts, STED gave permission to the following four Courses at the Lasyaleela Kalari in accordance with the prescribed syllabi.
The age-limit for admission to these Courses is fifteen years. As per rules, the Application Form, conduct of Examinations, Valuation, preparation of Mark-list and Certificate are the responsibilities of STED.
Currently, the Trust has been conducting only the Fundamentals of Mohiniyattam Course. The Course began in October 2024 with fifty -three students. Three batches are currently in operation. The total number of students come to eighty-eight.
Dr. C.P. Unnikrishnan, Kathakali actor, physiologist and Natyasastra scholar conducted Natyasastra classes online under the auspices of the Trust in March 2025. Twenty-two students attended the three-month Course and benefitted considerably from his lectures and interactions. The Course ended in May 2025.
This Course was begun in March 2025 in which 22 students were enrolled. The duration of the Course is one and a half years. The Course will be over in May 2026. More details of the Course can be had from the office-bearers of the Trust.
